Scoliosis & Massage Therapy

A November 15, 2019 article in ‘Scolio Smart Clinics’ by Clayton Stitzel DC, describes benefits of massage therapy for treatment of scoliosis. Benefits from massage include temporary pain relief, heightened body awareness (which may prevent speed of worsening), better sleep, enhanced mobility and more. Dr. Stitzel cites the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine where 1,000 patients suffering from scoliosis were studied over a period of three years. The study brought many strong arguments in favor of using massage for scoliosis. The most successful massage techniques appear to be cranialsacral techniques and deep tissue massage. Providers may want to investigate whether scoliosis patients have tried massage as a form of treatment.
