Considerations for accepting credit card payments in healthcare

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and HIPAA rules require entities to maintain reasonable and appropriate safeguards for protecting credit card payments.  Offices that are storing patient credit card information (regardless if on paper or in a practice management software), should follow the guidelines outlined by the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) for securing this information. The PCI SSC is a global open body formed to develop, enhance, disseminate and assist with the understanding of security standards for payment account security.
