Are you backing your computer system up or storing file in “the cloud”? Do you know if your service is HIPAA-compliant?
If you are utilizing an entity known as a Cloud Service Provider (CSP), the Office of Civil Rights has recently released HIPAA guidance HIPAA. A CSP is a type of internet-based company that provides shared computer processing resources and data to computers on demand. If a provider is utilizing a CSP that involves Protected Health Information (PHI) relating to patients, then the provider should have a Business Associate Agreement in place to assure the CSP is handling their PHI in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
